My only negative comment is that I was the one doing quality control on their work. I had to point out a door they forgot to paint, a gap above a lentil that had been caulked and should not have been, a door that was dragging after they worked on it, windows that were sticking after being painted. All that said, anytime I did point out an issue, they corrected it without hesitation. I got two bids for this job. One from a company I have used many times in the past, and one from this company which I had never used. This bid was much more competitive and I am pleased with the end result. I found Dettmann-Claus by looking on Angie’s List. They are one of three people I interviewed and got estimates from. Tom Claus of Dettmann-Claus was quick to respond to my phone call and was very timely with his estimate. You could tell he was a professional and knew the painting business. His estimate was not the lowest of the three, but I felt that he was the right person and would do the best, most professional job. I was not disappointed. His timeline for painting was exactly what he said. His painters were professional and courteous. I am very pleased with how the house looks. I did notice a week after they left that they had not painted an electrical box in my backyard. One call to Tom, and he had someone out to fix it right away.

We own a 93 year old 2 story brick home in University City.  They painted the exterior wood surfaces (windows, gutters etc.) and the garage. Their prep work included power washing the house, garage, porch and patio, hand scraping all the surfaces, scraped each individual window frame and re-glazing them as needed, and provided minor carpentry repairs to sill. To do the scraping and painting they removed the storm windows, screens and their frames. They did two coats of paint and then reinstalled all the storm window frames, glass and screens.

Comments: 

Tom Claus was on the job every morning talking with his team, reviewing the work for the day, checking on the results from the previous day and checking in with us.  The crew was friendly, experienced and professional. They worked hard and didn’t waste any time. It was the quality of their work we appreciated the most. This is an old home with mostly original windows with lots of old paint on them. Their hard work makes this place shine. Their clean up during and after the job was outstanding. We really appreciated Tom advising us that we should not paint the front doorway the same color as the rest of the trim. The front door had just been refinished and he thought the doorway color should match the hardware on the door. He found the right matching shade of black and WOW was he right.  This was a good experience all way round. We found Dettmann-Claus because several of our neighbors had used them in the past year and they raved about their work. We are happy to join the chorus.
